Win National Trust membership with Green Rewards
Users of the Green Rewards app could be in with the chance of winning membership to the National Trust in the Biodiversity Photo Competition that launched this week.
Members of Green Rewards can submit their best photo between now and 31st August. After the competition closes, you can vote for your favourite photo, and the person who submitted the photo with the most votes will win an annual adult membership to the National Trust – worth £84!
How to take part in the competition
- Sign up for Green Rewards either online or by downloading the app by searching for ‘Notts Green Rewards’ in your device’s app store.
- Click the ‘Submit’ button and send us your best nature or wildlife photo.
- You’ll be able to see photos submitted by Green Rewards members from across Nottinghamshire by clicking on the gallery page on the platform. At the end of the month, we’ll ask you to vote for your favourite photo and one lucky winner will win an annual individual adult National Trust Membership.
Biodiversity refers to all living things in a particular environment. It includes animals, plants, fungi, and the natural habitats where they live and grow. The natural world supports everything that we need to survive – such as food, clean water, and shelter.
Humans are putting increased pressure on the planet as we are using more resources than ever before. Climate change has impacted our natural world, and a report by WWF found a 69% decline in global populations of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish since 1970. One million animal and plant species are also now threatened with extinction. The loss of habitats can also increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
However, biodiversity is resilient. If we change our behaviour to reduce the pressure that human activities have on the environment, nature will adapt and recover. A key part of Nottingham’s ambition to become a carbon neutral city is enhancing biodiversity in the city through schemes like tree planting, natural flood defences, and relaxed mowing.
Go out to your local park, greenspace or even your garden to learn about the biodiversity in your area. Snap a photo while you’re there to get involved in the competition.
The Nottinghamshire Green Rewards Biodiversity photo competition is a collaboration between Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham, and a resident programme run by Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, and the six of Nottinghamshire’s district councils.
The Notts Green Rewards app has more than 7,000 members who have completed over 225,000 actions to tackle climate change. By signing up to Green Rewards and logging green actions, users can be in with a chance to win prizes every month.
Nottinghamshire residents in Broxtowe, Bassetlaw, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, Rushcliffe and Nottingham City can sign up to Green Rewards online or download the app in your device’s app store by searching for ‘Notts Green Rewards’.
